April 2011 Favorites!!

Hi Everyone!

I just recently put up a video on my YouTube on all my favourite products of the month of April! I find that this month I got way more products for my hair and face compared to the month of March.  March was more scattered.  But in the video I talked about around 17 products that I have been using in April and purchased in April!

It's a nice balance between hair, makeup and face products! So I hope that all of you head over to either my YouTube Channel and check out this video or just click on the link below that will bring you directly to the video!

It means a lot when I have people viewing my video's, leaving comments and subscribing to my channel. It really brightens my day and gives me a lot of motivation to continue making videos.  It means just as much as all of you coming to my blog and reading my posts. I try to  make them as interesting as possible and a wide variety of topics.  Sometimes I do slack on writing but I've been trying to post more often on more random things.

FYI: Sale at Sears and a little mascara talk!

Hi Everyone!

This post is mostly for my Canadian readers! I love the mascara from Clinique, the high impact mascara to be exact.  My mom got a little test tube that last quite a long time though from one of the Clinique gift bags that you get for free after you spend so much money.  I really loved the mascara but I've always been one to use pharmacy brand mascara.  I've been using the Cover Girl Volume Exact (comes in a red tube) for years now but I thought I would try a new mascara.  The only problem with Clinique is that the mascara cost like $26. So I decided I could wait a few months until Sears has their sale with Clinique products where you spend $26.50 and you get a free gift bag with a 7day scrub, a moisturizer, an eye makeup palette, a lipstick, a little trail mascara, a cute makeup bag and probably a few other things.  This month the Clinique makeup and face products are finally on sale after I've waited for months! The extra gift bag is a retail value of $70.  Since I said I could wait I find it's totally worth waiting so I can get the free gift bag (even though I won't use majority of things in it! haha).

The only thing I hate about these sales is that they make it $26.50 before taxes and majority of the lipstick, mascara, eyeshadow and so on cost $26 and under so you have to go find something else that is just as expensive to buy with your original purchase so you can get the free gift.  Like I said I think, although I'm not 100% certain that my mascara I want to get cost $26 but you have to spend $26.50 to get the gift which means I need to pick up a lip gloss or lipstick for like $12-16 to get the gift.  At the end of the day is it worth it?  I guess it depends what you want and how much is cost. I'm just hoping that my mascara cost $26.50+ so I don't have to get another product.

I would be highly disappointed if I waited a few months for the sale to happen and the mascara is only $26 which would make .50cents short of the minimum requirement.  Then I would have to look at what free gifts I would be getting and if it's worth it or should I head back to the pharmacy and try out a new mascara for $6.  Which may very well be the case since I have coupons to save $1-3 on CoverGirl, L'Oreal and Maybeline mascara!

But I thought I would share with all of you who are near a Sears and like Clinique products that they have a sale going on where if you spend $26.50 or more you get a free gift valued at $70!! Also if you spend so much you get a free $20 gift card for your next Clinique purchase.  I'm only looking for mascara but I know many people love the Clinique face wash line and acne wash line also!

Best and Worst Look of April!

Hi Everyone!

It's that time again, the best and worst look of the month of April already! I feel as though I just posted on the best and worst magazine covers of March.  This month I decided to stick to the original format of picking out my favourite celebrity look and well the biggest hot mess look of the month.  I was going to do post something different like I did last month with the magazine covers but as I was searching through celebrity appearances pictures I came across Helen Mirren or should I say Dame Helen who looked so freakin' fantastic!!!   I thought I had picked out my best dressed star a few weeks ago but today I found Helen at the premiere of Arthur and I knew that she was the best dressed of the month. I didn't have to look at any other picture. I saved it and now I'm here writing about how amazing she looks.

Helen Mirren: Seriously she looks so GOOOOOD!!! I can't believe it, maybe it's because I love leopard print. My mom has everything in leopard so I learned to love the print also but here Helen just looks so bad ass. She's a wearing a long flowing Dolce & Gabana dress but the silouette to this dress is beautiful, it fits her so well and makes her look stunning.  Plus that leather jacket make take the look from flowy and soft to modern and rocker. I love the hair off the face to give it more of an edgy look and the diamond hooped earrings add to the rocker vibe. And well the cuffs on the jacket are leopard too and that just rocks! She is up there on my favourite look of the year!

Honorable mention Minka Kelly: This was the look I was going to pick for the best look of April until I saw Helen Mirren but I think this is such a cute spring dress. I love the neck line on her and how it flares out at the waste. Plus this animal print looks so good on her. I like how she paired it with a simple nude shoe because the dress is bold and the best thing to do is pair the look with a simple heel. And looking at the other shoes in the picture her shoes are killer!

Hot Mess Look

The hot mess look goes to Kira Knightly. I have two different picture of her this month and I know she does have a different style but I have seen her wear beautiful clothes and look great but this month she was far from mark.

Here the look isn't as bad as the second look from her because she does have nice pieces like the jean jacket. I love the jean jacket I think it would look great paired with leggings and longer tight shirt but with this flowy no shape dress it doesn't work. It looks too bulky. The dress just falls and doesn't have a shape and the boots just add to the bulkyness of the look and the big boho bag.

This is my pick for the worst look of April. Kira is wearing a design by Rodarte. I don't even know what to say about this look. The saying that a picture speaks 1000 words should sum up this look. It's like little orphan Annie meets the Partridge Family.  The shape, colour, pattern and texture is all wrong. I wouldn't even hang this as curtains in my room. And the colour is so similar to hers so it completely washes her out and well the shape isn't even there and the ruffles do nothing. I really can't explain how unflattering this look is. I would just have to say look at the picture and you'll know exactly what I'm talking about.

This months favourite colour and perfect spring dress:

I think Gwyneth Paltrow looks hot here. Her hair is slightly curled/wavy and that is very in this spring! Her makeup is fresh and simple and the dress is just amazing on her. It fits her like a glove. The only thing is that silk is very unforgiving so if you need to have a great figure like Gwyn does to pull off this look. But why this is a great spring choice is the bold vibrant colour. I love yellow and this yellow screams sunshine and happy which is perfect to get our moods out of the winter blues and the rainy spring time. I like the t-shirt style dress, it says sexy without saying trashy and well her shoes look awesome. It still has a feel of a boot but with an open top and toe makes it a great look for spring!

Jennifer Lopez American Idol April 13

Hi Everyone!

Last week on American Idol, Jennifer Lopez looked amazing. She was named People's most beautiful and she sure proved it the way she was dressed.  The entire outfit was gorgeous! Some people might think that the outfit was too busy or a little much with all the glitter and tulle but that's who JLo is. She always has over the top glitter and jewelry and sometimes it doesn't work but last week she was rockin' it!  At first I wasn't a big fan of the tulle on the dress because I thought it was positioned weird and didn't need to be there but every time I look at the dress again I started liking the tulle even more. It's a little touch of high fashion and takes the dress from cute, glittery and nice to glam, diva and fashion.

But what I really want to talk about is her hair clip! As my mom and I we're watching the show together we we're also on our computers trying to find a similar sparkling hair clip like hers (which is very hard to find). We found some that we're similar at an affordable price but they we're not the same shape. We found some that we're hearts or squares but I love the circle/oval shape. I'm not a big fan of heart shapes.  I did however find a product from Scunci. It's an As Seen On TV hair clip which I will be writing on my next post because I think it deserves it's very on post! Plus I bought a pair and I'll be adding pictures on how it looks and how to put it in!

There we're not many pictures of JLo that I could find from that night on AI.  The AI website post pictures of the contestants on their website from each performance but they don't really post any pictures of the judges from the night. I know the whole point of American Idol is for the contestants and it's a talent show so all the media attention should be on the contestants but to be honest one of my favourite parts is watching the judges walk out on the stage to their seats at the start of the show because I can't wait to see what Jennifer Lopez is wearing and its the only time I get to see her full outfit.  I really miss Simon, I miss his honesty so now the highlights are seeing my favourite contestants sing and what JLo is wearing!

Love the overall look, she can basically almost pull off anything!

You can't really see it here but I believe the back of the shoe had tulle on it and the heel is metallic!

This is probably why I love the look so much, this hair clip is to die for! And well her hair too, she can do anything with it.

Again only she can pull off glitter hair clip, glitter shoes, glitter dress and glitter makeup without it looking trashy.

What do you guy's think about JLo's look?  I find that sometimes she's a hit and miss but what I like is that she is willing to take chances and when she's a hit, she really on it! She looks amazing!

Make Your Own Pore Strip!

Hi Everyone!!

I just finished up a video on how to make and apply your own pore strip.  Pore strips can get expensive especially if you want to use them every week to two weeks.  This is a great alternative to those more expensive store bought strips.  This is an at home remedy using only 2 ingredients!! All you need is unflavoured gelatin which I buy the Knox gelatin in a box it comes with 4 packages and that will last me for a really long time. I bought my pack for only .98cents! Then the second ingredient you need is milk, that's it! It's super easy and it works!!!  I'm always trying to find at home remedies or homemade only because it saved on money and the ingredients in the products are better for you.

Put Your Game Face On

Hi Everyone!

This isn't a typical post since I usually talk about hair, makeup and fashion (keep reading I actually do talk about makeup and a great way to change your look) which I think what I'm going to go is update my blog more often with just random stuff about hair, makeup and fashion, this probably doesn't make much sense but you'll see!! Anyways this post is much different because I'm going to talk about my favourite thing on earth The Montreal Canadiens and hockey! I'm a huge hockey fan, well really I love all sports but the hockey season just ended and the Canadiens made the playoffs.  On facebook they have this contest where you have to ''Put Your Game Face On'' so I decided to enter in it.  I put  my war paint on and took pictures for the contest.

I guess in a way I could tie in fashion into this post... As you will some pictures don't have red lipstick and then I decided I wanted to put lipstick on since it would match the teams colours and make the red on the shirt and face stand out more.  Adding a bold bright colour to your lips completely changes a look, it makes it more dramatic and there is something about a bright bold red that screams high fashion to me. I attached pictures of no lipstick and red lipstick and well red lipstick may not be for everyone, just try and play around with different colours that go well with your skin tone. I find a fair light skin tone like mine contrasts well with a red lipstick compared to a darker skin tone looks really nice with a light soft pink.

So if you are a hockey fan like myself or a fan of any sporting team, support the team and Put On Your Game Face. It's a great and inexpensive way to show your support and it's fun to do!

And don't forget if you want to change up a look effortlessly then just add some lipstick or a really nice lip gloss. It bring the look from plain to bold and dramatic.
